THE GOOD OL' DAYS

On the 25th of April- OC,Leo Ashley Yee and her AOC, Leo Richie from U8 organised a joint visit to Rumah Charis in Puchong with the Leo Club of SMK USJ 8. We brought & ate lunch with the old folks there, as well as had a few singing and dancing performances arranged for them. We enjoyed listening to them tell us their many interesting stories. At the end of our visit, we even gave out little gifts to the elderly, just to see them smile. They were happy to have our company too as all of them told us to come back again to visit whenever we were free. We felt pretty sad to leave as the lovely old folks were really kind and friendly to us. The objective of this project to strengthen the ties between the old and young in the community was definitely achieved! ROAR!!

The chocolates were packed in colourful envelopes with positive quotes written on them. The objective of this project was to value our friends by giving them chocolates as tokens of appreciation, as well as to promote smiling and happiness, especially to overcome the Monday blues. Students were pleasantly surprised to receive the little gifts and expressed delight at getting them. Their faces sure did light up - which was what this project was all about, bringing smiles to faces! We are really glad we were able to brighten up their morning.

Book Drive

This project was carried out since 27.01.15 - 29.01.15, organised by our Membership Director, Leo Yeong Phik Jia.

The aim of this project is to provide educational books for the children and teenagers who stay at a rural plantation area, Batang Berjuntai. Majority of the kids go to Tamil school, which means they do not speak English as their first language. We are aware of the importance of English language in the modern world- so one of our goals is to increase their English proficiency.

By providing literacy and education to the children, we hope to empower them to break the cycle of poverty. Throughout this project, we also hope to nurture the students by enhancing their teambuilding spirit and leadership skills of the students who are involved in this project. This project will be in collaboration with a student body in Sunway University, Sunway Student Volunteers, which performs many voluntary works around Klang Valley, and have worked with various organisations including MPSJ.
